Training and Support

Training and Support Package

Our training and support package is quite simple.

Trainees join our Training and Support programme. The first stage is to get competent. We have developed a 14-module training course to provide the skills and experience necessary for wellbeing consultants to set up for themselves, to help individuals or to help company clients.

After qualifying, we support our newly qualified consultants to get started. We support our trainees with weekly online consultations, documentation that they might need, registration with professional bodies and ongoing one-to-one sessions.

The first step is the training course.

Module 1: An introduction to wellbeing consultancy

This module provides an overview of the world of consultancy and how therapists might work, either providing services to individual, business or both. Most of our very successful consultants have private practices and they also offer consultancy to companies.

Module 2: What is mental health?

It is incredibly important that consultants are fully aware of mental health and its impact on our wellbing. This module is very scientific in nature and we explore topics such as brain function, psychology, depression, medications for mental health issues, the science behind counselling, and work-life balance.

Module 3: Counselling

Regardless of the type of service our consultants deliver, it all starts with a grounding in counselling. Our trainers are qualified counsellors and psychologists and they are well-placed to teach the basics of person-centred counselling.

Module 4: Advanced skills in counselling

This module builds on the previous one and explores the different types of counselling, from individual counselling to group therapy.

Module 5: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is one of the most successful therapies. It differs from person-centred counselling because it is very practical in nature. The NHS prefer this type of counselling because it can get results very quickly. A course of six or seven CBT sessions can quite literally change a person’s life. This module teaches the basics of CBT and how it can be applied.

Module 6: Advanced skills in CBT

This module builds on the previous one and explores CBT in more detail. This module is very interactive and trainees will get plenty of opportunity to practice their skills using online one-to-one sessions.

Assessment 1

At this stage in the programme, we pause for an assessment. Trainees have to write a 1,000 word essay, which will be marked by their tutor. The second part of this assignment involves an online counselling session of about 20 minutes. Trainees will be asked to conduct a counselling session with one of our team.

Module 7: Clinical hypnotherapy and relaxation

Hypnotherapy is a very effective tool that the wellbeing consultant can use with individual clients and with company personnel. Hypnotherapy is safe providing therapists are trained properly. We cover the subject in detail over two modules and we offer practical follow-up sessions so that delegates can practice in a safe environment.

Module 8: Clinical hypnotherapy for business leaders

Our qualified consultants are often asked to help business leaders develop their skills and to help them overcome specific leadership-related issues. Hypnotherapy is perfect for this type of work.

Module 9: Counselling and CBT for business leaders

This module looks specifically at the business world and how managers, leaders and employees can benefit from counselling and CBT.

Assessment 2

Once again, it is time for an assessment! Trainees submit a 1,000 word essay and then they carry out a diagnostic session with one of our team. Our ‘actor’ will come to the session with one of a number of mental health issues and the trainee must try to uncover the issue and, more importantly, discuss possible ways to help.

Module 10: Life coaching

Counselling, CBT and hypnotherapy are skills that can help people overcome mental health issues. But they are also skills that can be used to help people develop. Many of our consultants spend a lot of their time as leadership coaches, helping business leaders to develop their people-skills and to help them overcome their own weaknesses.

Module 11: Psychology

This module is very scientific in nature. We believe that our trainees need to develop practical skills but we also believe they need underpinning knowledge. This module will help them to learn about behavioural and organisational psychology and the role it plays in wellbeing.

Module 12: Personality, psychometrics and team dynamics

Most people have heard of ‘personality types’. We are an approved Myers-Briggs psychometric assessment centre and we use this a lot during our work with corporate clients. Each trainee is provided with a psychometric assessment and this is discussed with their tutor. We use a tool called FIRO-B, which is very popular with business clients. This module teaches the use of psychometrics and FIRO.

Module 13: Legal aspects of wellbeing at work

This module covers the legalities of wellbeing at work. Every employer must take ‘reasonable care’ of their employees while at work. What does this mean? What help do employers need? This module delves into the world of health and safety at work and will equip our trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to help business clients.

Module 14: Private practice

The final module puts it all together. This is the most exciting part of the course because it is the stage where our trainees move from ‘training’ to ‘working’ as consultants.

Final assessment

The final assessment has four parts:

Part 1: A 2,000 word essay on working as a wellbeing consultant.

Part 2: A one-hour one-to-one counselling session with one of our team members whereby the trainees acts as the counsellor.

Part 3: A case study where we provide a fictitious client and the trainee has to develop a comprehensive set of solutions.

Part 4: A presentation on mental health at work whereby the trainee delivers a 20-minute presentation on wellbeing at work.

And finally!

After successfully completing the course our trainees are able to start working for themselves as wellbeing consultants. Many people who qualify just want to work with private clients while other prefer business clients. Most consultants do both, which help to keep a good level of income.

But the end of the course doesn’t mean the end of our relationship. In fact, completion of the course is, in many way, just the start.

Our ongoing support package includes everything that you will need to run a successful wellbeing consultancy.

Access to our information portal

All our course material, documentation and training materials are available on our Learning Portal. Trainees and consultants have unlimited access to the portal. There is even a forum where you can discuss things with other consultants.

SUPPORT PACKAGE

Qualifying as a Wellbeing Consultant is just the first step. In fact, now the fun really starts because you can get working, earning and helping people.

Some of our consultants work exclusively with private clients, offering a one-to-one counselling and support service. Some consultants prefer to work with corporate clients, providing training courses and awareness of mental health at work. The most successful consultants are those who offer both private and business support.

We provide ongoing support, training and documentation to help you develop as a consultant so that your business goes from strength to strength.

We offer ongoing support in the following.

Weekly catch up

Our consultants have an opportunity to have a one-to-one session online with one of our tutors. This is invaluable because running a consultancy can be lonely and daunting. Weekly support provides a friendly and confidential sounding board.

Access to documentation and training materials

Our ongoing support package includes unlimited access to our learning portal where there is a comprehensive library of documents and training materials for our consultants to use as they wish.

The library contains health and safety templates, slide packs for using to deliver training on mental health at work, CBT worksheets, client registration forms and wellbeing manuals.

Ongoing training

Each month, we deliver a one-hour training session on a particular subject. It might be on CBT or stress at work, or it might be about the latest developments in psychology. All our consultants are encouraged to join these sessions to help with their personal development.

Psychometric assessments

Offering psychometric assessments to clients can be a very lucrative business. Many companies have a need for ongoing assessments for leadership and for recruitment. We are an approved Myers-Briggs assessment centre and we are therefore able to offer this service to our consultants. This can greatly help develop and grow your consultancy business.

Professional registration

We are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and we hope our newly trained consultants will join some of the many professional organisations that exist. We help our consultants to gain their accrediations.

Unlimited access to the learning portal

The support package includes unlimited access to the learning portal so that you can use all our material for your own benefit. There is also a consultants forum where you can ask questions and discuss topics with other consultants.

Referred work

Although we cannot guarantee this, we often refer work to our consultants. Referred work can be a valuable income stream for our newly qualified consultants.
